Ilanga Festival To Take place on July 22nd, 2017

Events

The 4th annual Ilanga festival will take place exactly four days after Nelson Mandela International Day. The date will be July 22nd, 2017 at the Hamburg Planten un Blomen pavilion from 15:00 - 19:00.

Ilanga festival was launched in 2009 in recognition of Nelson Mandela’s birthday on the 18th of July, via unanimous decision of the UN General Assembly and has been celebrated in his honour since
July 2010.
Traditionally we open our festival with a DRUM CALL on historic South African drums, performed by Dumisani Mabaso and Thando Walbaum.
We are very happy to introduce this year's presenter: Johanna Princess von Sachsen- Coburg.
Performing artists this year include:

◊ Thandi & Samira - a young, songwriter duo from Berlin ◊NYANGA - groovy jazz in Marabi and Kwela style
◊ Anri Coza - the queen of Pop noire
◊ from Vienna we have the award-winning singer and dancer Thabiso Serobanyane
◊ DUBE presents Mbaqanga & Township Music.
Dj.TMW plays the hottest beatz like Kwaito and Pantsula.

Special guest - Direct from Johannesburg - will be the Afrosoul singer and world musician Max-Hoba!

Nelson Mandela International Day is much more than a celebration of Madiba’s legacy of fighting for freedom and a culture of peace. It is a global movement to honour his life’s work and act to change the world for the better.

The people from Ilanga festival carry within their hearts tremendous joy and inspiration from this vision!
Which means that this year there will again be a bigger platform for institutions dedicated to human rights, children in need and those who engage in environmental and refugee causes.

Our guest of honor is the Zimbabwean women's rights activist Nomazulu Thata. Other guests are the NGO Masifunde and
the Global Network Organization CITIZEN of the World.

As in previous years we will collect donations for 'The Institute for Healing of Memories' in Cape Town.
On July 22nd our wish is for all the visitors, guests and participating artists to become One Big Rainbow Nation in which all the colours live in harmony and peace with themselves and the whole world!

TAKE ACTION. INSPIRE CHANGE.
MAKE EVERY DAY A MANDELA DAY
