I was deeply moved when Pastor John Asamoah Baffour visited my office to share a personal story.
"Years ago, I attended the AYEA event with my second daughter, who had finished secondary school but was reluctant to further her education," he began. "That day, she and her friends were so inspired, especially by the Lesotho Ambassador's speech. In that moment, she changed her mind. Today, she has her Master's degree."
I sat listening, captivated, as Pastor Asamoah continued. "The elder sister, who was working as a kindergarten teacher, then challenged herself to not be surpassed by her younger sibling. She too went on to earn her Master's. The younger one, like a flock of sheep, followed suit naturally."
Sitting beside me was one of my mentees, Bamba, who nodded solemnly, understanding the weight of Pastor Asamoah's words.
We have the power to positively impact society today and create an even better future…
"Remember, you are never remembered for what you do for yourself, but for what you do for others."
Pastor Asamoah's story was a testament to the transformative power of inspiration and mentorship. His children, once hesitant, were encouraged by the event and went on to achieve remarkable academic success. This is the very essence of what the African Youth Education Awards aims to cultivate - a ripple effect of positivity, empowerment and progress.
As I looked between Pastor Asamoah and Bamba, I was filled with a profound sense of hope. If we continue to uplift and inspire the next generation, there is no limit to the good we can accomplish.
I wish to thank past, present and future organizers of AYEA!
